Jennifer Parsinen

Associate Choreographer

Jenny is proud to be a part of the Allegiance family. She was Assistant Choreographer for the NY-based dance companies and Mark Stuart Dance Theatre, as well as regional productions of Annie, Aida, Rent and Chicago. She was also the Assistant Choreographer for the children’s holiday book/DVD Rooftop Hop and a proud member of Donald McKayle’s Étude Ensemble. As a performer, NY and regional credits include Fame on 42nd St., Annie Get Your Gun, Sweet Charity, and Oklahoma!.

DARREL MALONEY has designed for broadcast, commercials, concerts, film and theatre. His projection and video designs for Broadway include Green Day’s American Idiot (St. James Theatre) and Everyday Rapture (Roundabout). Other projection designs include Surf (Las Vegas), Karen O’s Stop the Virgens (St. Ann’s Warehouse), Masks Outrageous and Austere (Culture Project), Tokio Confidential (Atlantic), The Submission (MCC), One Night With Janis Joplin (Portland Center Stage), SCKBSTD (Virginia Stage), The Elephant Man (Minnesota Opera), as well as lighting & projections for Peer Gynt (La Jolla Playhouse & Kansas City Rep.)

Andrew Palermo


Andrew Palermo is the Artistic Director and Co-Founder (along with childhood best friend Taye Diggs) of, an NYC based contemporary dance company. Since its premiere in 2005, has earned a reputation for authentically poignant and powerful dancing with performances and residencies in New York City and across the country.

In addition to concert dance, Mr. Palermo maintains a schedule of direction and choreography for stage and screen, with stage credits that include Allegiance (The Old Globe); Kristin Chenoweth at Carnegie Hall; The Frank Loesser Songbook with New York Philharmonic (Lincoln Center); The Mikado (Carnegie Hall); The Other Josh Cohen (SoHo Playhouse); Lyrics and Lyricists (92nd St. Y); The Aluminum Show (International tour); V-Day (Urban Stages);

MELANIE TOJIO LOCKYER (Assistant Director) is proud to be a part of the Allegiance family. She Co-Directed/Choreographed Les Misèrables at Casa Manana and in Hawaii where she also Co-Dir/Choreographed Thoroughly Modern Millie.  

Laura Bergquist

Associate Musical Director

LAURA BERGQUIST conducted National Tours of The King and I, Titanic and Miss Saigon. She is a frequent guest conductor in regional theatres and a clinician in universities and churches. An ASCAP Awards recipient for composition, her personal catalogue includes more than sixty works in print and several recordings. Laura’s work as a Musical Director include the World Premiers of Jane Austen’s Emma, Jane Eyre, and Daddy Long Legs. Regional: The Old Globe, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, The Rubicon Theatre, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis Northlight Theatre and Theater Works as well as the New York Stage and Film Festival, Julliard, NYMF, MITF and NAMT. She has been on the teaching faculties of Friends University and NYU at Playwright’s Horizon. She resides in New York City with her husband, maintains a large coaching studio and works as a musical director, accompanist and performer. Laura is delighted to be a part of the ALLEGIANCE family. Donyale received a 2012 Tony Award for Peter & the Starcatcher on Broadway. Other Broadway credits include Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson (2011 Tony Nomination). Off-Broadway credits include The Explorers Club (MTC), BARE (New World Stages), The North Pool (The Vineyard), Taming of the Shrew (Theatre for a New Audience), Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson (Public Theater; Lucille Lortel Award, Hewes Design Award), Broke-ology (Lincoln Center Theater), Jollyship the Whizbang (Ars Nova). Regional: Papermill Playhouse, The Old Globe, Two River Theater. Recipient of a 2011 Obie Award. Donyale supports & speaks publicly about sustainable design and is the co-chair of the Pre/Post Production Committee of the Broadway Green Alliance.

Lynne Shankel

Music Direction, Arrangements

Lynne Shankel has written orchestrations and arrangements for the San Francisco Symphony (featuring Bonnie Raitt), Dallas Opera Orchestra (featuring George Hearn) and for Tony Bennett’s famed 80th birthday celebration at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.  She was music director/arranger for the Broadway production of Cry-Baby, as well as the resident music supervisor for the Tony Award-winning revival of Company, for which she conducted the Grammy-nominated cast album.  She was music director/arranger for the Off Broadway hit Altar Boyz, for which she received a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Orchestrations.  

Jay Kuo

Composer, Lyricist, Book Writer

Allegiance is Kuo’s fourth musical.  His composing career began at Stanford, where he wrote and produced Upwardly Mobile, a story of five friends coming of age.  Kuo’s second musical, Insignificant Others, played from 2006-2008 in San Francisco at New Conservatory Theatre Center, Zeum and Theatre 39 and won a Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award for Best Original Script.

LORENZO THIONE (Book) is proud and excited of the World Premiere of Allegiance at the Old Globe, on which he began working in 2008 alongside friend and composer Jay Kuo following an encounter with George Takei, whose experience in the internment camps inspired them to write a musical about this dark and mostly unknown chapter of American history.
